Blue Alchemy:Stories of Indigo

Announce about Indigo film from London

details of the screening in London on 7th March of ‘Blue Alchemy: Stories of Indigo’, a new feature length documentary film by Mary Lance, about: ‘indigo, a blue dye that has captured the human imagination for millennia. It is also about remarkable people around the globe who are reviving indigo in projects that are intended to improve life in their communities, preserve cultural integrity, improve the environment, and bring beauty to the world.’

Mary is coming to UK especially to present several screenings over a few days, in between presenting the film at various big film festivals in US and Canada.
This is the only London evening screening (there is also to be one at the earlier time of 5 or 5.30 (tbc) at the London College of Fashion on 12th March, advert not yet finalised.) Details about the film are on the website

Report of Ryukyu-indigo support project 1

Ryukyu-Ai in Japanese is Strobilanthes cusia

we are supporting Higa farm and producing vats in northern Okinawa.
They are only one, keeping traditional vats and system of making indigo past.

Their condition of location is best for cultivation of Strobilanthes cusia,
between mountains, they have much natural water and neighboring farms.

We will plant second cutting propagation in February 2012.

We are researching other old vats in ruins.

We joined ISEND 2011 with 13 members: artists, scientists, dyers, weavers, designers.
and exhibited any KIMONO & OBI(Japanese traditional costume) and Tapestry, dress, fiber works, and presented researching posters and film and dyeing demonstration.
